- Aid programme evaluation - To evaluate the impact of policies, in particular of individual projects in the health, education and micro-finance sectors, ECOPA applies rigorous micro-econometric methods whenever this is possible. These methods aim to obtain a counterfactual scenario to compare with the observed scenario, while controlling for selection biases. They thus enable a response to the crucial question: What would the situation be without the evaluated programme? These tools add to ‘expert opinions’ and rely on pertinent and qualified measurements derived from the facts.
- Development aid strategies - Other than its extensive experience in aid programs and the working of funding agencies, ECOPA’s expertise in development aid strategies is founded on its own research efforts into the principles and architecture of aid. Its research on aid efficiency rests on a modelling of the political equilibrium in recipient countries.
